STANDFAST is a sodium based isotonic drink. Increasing salt intake produces several changes in the body. Salt supplementation expands the blood and plasma volume. Plasma is the liquid component of blood. Using STANDFAST for only a few days can increase the plasma volume by 300ml (approximately the volume of a can of soft drink). People who suffer with POTS or vasovagal syncope typically have a low plasma volume. STANDFAST also stimulates the production of more red blood cells as the expanded plasma volume stimulates a hormone called erythrpoetin. This can be beneficial for endurance athletes.
STANDFAST also increases vascular resistance responses. This enables the body’s nervous system to better squeeze arteries and veins when the individual stands for prolonged periods. This stops the symptoms that people experience in POTS as well as preventing fainting. Salt supplementation also improves brain blood flow so preventing ‘brain fog’, dizziness and visual symptoms.
