Understanding the label

Salt is more than
the table salt added.

Sodium chloride is only one source of sodium in this recipe. Sodium citrate and sodium bicarbonate contribute sodium too.

On a nutrition label, “salt” means the salt equivalent of all the sodium in the product. It is calculated as sodium × 2.5. That is why the nutrition-table salt value is larger than the weight of sodium chloride added.

Salt and sodium explained ↗

How much salt and sodium does Standfast provide?

Figures calculated from the manufacturer’s recipe dated 21 July 2023, using its per-100 g nutrition values.

Standfast: salt equivalent and sodium
Amount of powderTotal saltEquivalent sodium
13.5 g servingMixed in 750 ml water7.2 g2.88 g2,880 mg
100 g powder53.4 g21.36 g21,360 mg

Sodium = salt ÷ 2.5. The 13.5 g serving values are rounded. “Total salt” includes sodium from sodium citrate and bicarbonate as well as sodium chloride; it is not just the approximately 2 g of sodium chloride in the recipe.

Count any drink within your total daily intake. A 13.5 g serving provides more than the usual 6 g adult daily salt limit before food is included. This table is not a recommendation to use Standfast for POTS or to take a particular number of servings. Agree suitability and total intake with your clinician.
